Welcome!

Welcome to my home on the internet! This website serves as a landing page for my professional and creative work. Here you'll find summaries of my work in layout and game design, as well as technical writing. Samples will be provided where available, as well as links to where my work can be found online.

About Me

My name is Emily Pennyway (pronouns she/her or they/them). You might also see me credited as Dee Pennyway in my published work. I'm a queer, neurodivergent writer and designer based out of Columbia, South Carolina.

I've been alive in the professional post-college world since 2008. Since then I've worked in theatre, video games, software development, and even a bit of coffee artistry. I no longer have an espresso machine at my disposal, but I've carried skills forward from every career I've held.

My greatest strength (or depending on your perspective, my greatest curse) is my ability to draw connections between otherwise disparate ideas. I can spot similarities between the database my team is designing and the recipe for a caramel macchiatto, which has enabled me to learn technical concepts quickly and synthesize them into documentation that even a non-engineer can understand.

When I'm not writing and designing documentation strategies, you can often find me writing tabletop games, building artistic book layouts, and (most recently) tinkering with programming video games from scratch with my 7-year-old child.

I'm a strong advocate for accessible and inclusive design wherever it makes sense and is appropriate to do so.

Your layout work is awesome! Can I hire you?

The short answer is maybe! I have a busy life schedule between kids and day work, but if you have a project and you'd like me to build you a quote, send me an email. My layout work is currently based on a $40/hour rate.

I have other professional queries. Can I contact you?

Absolutely! I'm not on Twitter anymore, so aside from LinkedIn I have no social media presence, but I do have email.
